The True Cost - a fashion documentary

I saw a screening of new fashion industry documentary The True Cost recently at the soft launch of new Australian ethical fashion label VIHN (see more on these guys and Undress Runways in my last post) and it really struck a chord.

I had some idea of the negative, harmful impacts of 'fast fashion' on people and the environment - like the fact the fashion industry is the second highest polluting industry in the world, second only to coal. But this film was a real eye-opener.

"The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?"

It shouldn't make sense to anyone that the price of fashion has been decreasing over the years, especially as everything else continues to go up. The True Cost shows how fashion corporations have been getting away with this, and the real price is paid by the workers and our planet.

The True Cost can now be viewed online - I highly recommend a watch.
